Hello my friends in Dunedin

The new academic year have started on April in Japan and it has past a month.
Cherry blossoms in my school's garden are blooming now and it is really beautiful.
We had 26 of new friends in this April. They were new pupils of my Gifu Shotoku Gakuen primary school and, altogether, our school had have 167 friends.
I visited their classroom and spent with them.
I could make friend with them.

Today, we had a welcome ceremony for the new friends.
We sang some songs and played some games together.
It was a very good time.
During the ceremony, I was seated with them.
I was glad so much to see their happy faces.

In Japan, all of the Japanese people are looking forward to see cherry blossoms.
When the cherries have blossoms on Spring, people have some tea under the trees and have a happy time.
This custom is called "Hanami."
After the cherry trees finish blooming, the trees have new buds on their twigs and they gradually turn into green with a lot of leaves. It looks pretty beautiful.
The spring season in Japan is really comfortable.

see you again

Hullo my Friends in Dunedin

From the end of April to the beginning of May there are a lot of holidays,so we have seven to ten straight days off, including weekends in Japan.

Compared with Western countries, Japan is said to have fewer holidays,
so Japanese children, of course adults as well, are looking forward to this long period of days off.

I heard golden meant wonderful like gold. So I think this period is really wonderful in that everyone can go out with their family, because their schools and offices are off.

I am planning to visit hot spring resort with my friend Miyabe next Golden Week .

Hello my friends in Dunedin

it was very nice weather during Golden Week Holiday in Japan.
In Japan, after cherry blossoms finish blooming, many other flowers such as wisterias, dogwoods e.g. start blooming. We can see these flowers everywhere in our town. There are some flowers such as pansies and tulips, in our school garden and they are blooming nicely now.

In Golden Week Holiday, I went a lot of place such as Tanigumi, Yokokura in Gifu with Kazuo, he is a teacher, a curriculum coordinator, of our primary school. His family and I went to Mt. Tanigumi and Yokokura shrine and we had a lot of fun. We also went to Tanigumi Onsen and soaked in the hot spring.
Onsen is a kind of pool filled with warm water and most of onsens are situated near mountain. Onsen looks like spa. It is said to be good for health.

On 3rd of May, during the Golden Week Holiday, was the Constitution Memorial Day. I learnt in a class that Japanese constitution is a constitution of peace. After the World War 2, we could develop our nation without any war thanked for this constitution.

On 5th of May, also during the Holiday, was the Children's Day. In fact, this day had been for boy and boys festival, named "Tango no Sekku" in Japanese, but it have changed to children's day. So now, the day is for all children. We celebrate the day eating Timaki and Kashiwa-moti (traditional Japanese sweets made of rice) and putting some Koinoboris (special flags modeled from carp) up to the sky. I saw many Koinoboris waved by a wind above Sakai River, near our school. They looked as if they were swimming in the sky. And we put calamus and Yomogis (plants) into a bath; this is also traditional way for celebrating Children's Day. The bath contains the plants smells really good. As I mentioned above, when I went to Tanigumi Onsen with Kazuo, I saw the plants were kept floated in the hot spring.

Now in Japan, it is cool in the morning and evening, but it is really hot in the afternoon. The temperature in Gifu was recorded 30 degree yesterday. It is getting hotter in Japan.

The Golden Week Holiday have finished last Thursday. I had really good time in the holiday.
I'm looking forward to see my friends in my school.

All my love

Hello my friends in Dunedin!

The Golden Week Holiday have finished and I met my friends last week at school. It's been a long time. In this week, I spent a nice time with 6 years friends in the new pupils class.

On Monday, they and I seeded Morning Glories in a class. Firstly, I put some soils in a flower pot and, secondly, I planted a small seed of the flower.
Then, I gave it some water. I'm really looking forward to seeing the bud. I hope it bud out early.
™I have a question. Is there Morning Glory in Dunedin? I wonder if this flower is seen only in Japan or not. In Japanese primary school, the Morning Glories are usually used as a teaching aids for Social-Science and Science class. How about your school?

On Thursday, it was pouring with rain. It was a really heavy rain and, what was worse, it started lightning. In fact, I have a school activity tomorrow and I have been looking forward to it. I thought "Oh no... I hope it will be fine and I can go to the activity tomorrow...." I went to bed disappointedly at that night.

But on Friday, when I got up in the morning, I found that it was really nice day. I was really very happy! My classmates and I went to Gifu Stockbreeding Centre, which was about 30 minutes from our school by bus. There were a lot of flowers, lush trees, horses, sheep, and so on. We played a lot in the large park which had lots of grasses and in the playground where there were athletic playbuildings. All of the children played until they got sweat. At the lunch time, I ate my lunch with Tomiaki, he was 7 years. The lunch eating under the blue sky and eating with my friends was very nice. I had a really good time. As I tired, I'll go to bed early today.

The Video Conference will come soon, won't it?
I'm looking forward to see you on TV.
See you soon.

Love

Hello my friends in New Zealand

Today, I went to EXPO 2005 AICHI (the International Exhibition) with myclassmates, who are 9, 10 and 11Years, altogether 84 pupils, as a schoolactivity. The EXPO is held in Aichi, neighbour prefecture of Gifu. It isheld for 6 months from last March and the visitors have been over 2 million.
It's been 35 years since last EXPO was held in Japan.

We left our school at 7 o'clock and it took about an hour to get the EXPO.
When we got there and while I was waiting for nearly an hour until the gate opened, I was a little boring. At 9 o'clock, the gate opened and I went straight to the pavilion which I wanted to see.

There were many pavilions which contained wonderful exhibitions such as robots which adopted new technology, a latest acoustic building which contained amazing screen and speaker system, and so on. One of the pavilions, a mammoth which was found from under the tundra in Siberia was very popular. I was surprised that such ancient animal had been frozen under the ground in an intact shape. I was glad to see the beautiful shape of mammoth.

There were many international pavilions such as Indonesia, Singapore, France, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and so on. Of course, I visited the New Zealand pavilion, too. In the NZ pavilion, many pictures which guided NZ's beautiful sites were exhibited and many people learned about the wonderful NZ's natures. I was impressed to see my home country's scenes. The pictures reminded me of my home town. How's going everyone in New Zealand?
If you have a chance, please come to Japan and visit the EXPO; the EXPO will be held until September.

Morizo and Kiccoro are famous as the character of EXPO. Morizo is a grandfather who live in a forest and know everything about the nature.
Kiccoro is a wood nymph of the forest. They are really lovely. I give you a book "Mori no Koe (means Voices of The Forest)", which is the story about them. I sent you by an air mail. When you get it, please read it with your
friends.

I had a really nice time, today.
I'd like to go the EXPO again.
See you.

All my love

Hello my friends in Dunedin

I was surprised to hear that Doraemon had caught a cold. But I am glad to hear that he got recovered and came back to school again.
Is it very cold in New Zealand? I was also surprised to hear that you had the first snow fall of the year. Because it is really hot now in Japan, I am in@a sweat every day. Moreover, the temperature is nearly 30 degrees.

On Monday, it was the opening day of the swimming pool in my school. The swimming season has started. Children practise swimming hard in the wide and big pool. They practise crawl and breaststroke. It was a dazzling shiny day. I cheered for them from the poolside.

On Wednesday, many students of Gifu Shotoku Gakuen University, 140 students, came to our primary school to see the classes. There were so many students that I was surprised. I heard they would like to be teachers in the future.
They watched our classes very carefully.

Do you remember that I planted a morning glory in class last month? It has been getting bigger. At first, it had small leaves but now it is growing well. The morning glory flowers after its tendrils have grown. I am really looking forward to seeing the flower.

By the way, it was New Zealand's day at EXPO, the international exhibition in Aichi, the other day. There were some stage performances such as Maori dancing and singing. I watched them on TV and I was very happy.

And, the world friendly softball match has been taking place in Gifu since last week. Of course, New Zealand's softball team came here to play the games. Though I am in Japan, I can hear a lot of news about New Zealand.

Now, it is very hot in Japan but I won't be overcome by the heat.
I will be in good health.

See you later
